The school representing Masvingo province emerged victorious in a tight race which saw it outsmart St Eric’s High School and St Faith’s Mission High School and the rest.

The quiz show was organised by the National Aids Council (NAC) together with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Questions asked were tough but all the contestants soldiered on. Some of the questions included HIV Science.

The competitions bring together learners from across the country not only to compete for prizes based on their knowledge of life skills, sexuality, HIV and Aids and other development issues but also to demonstrate the necessity of participation as a key pillar of the multi-sectoral response to HIV and Aids.

NAC has over the years partnered with the Primary and Secondary Education ministry and other partners to implement a robust all-inclusive life skills, sexuality, HIV and Aids programme in the guidance and counselling learning area that is being delivered in a structured manner from the lowest level of ECD up to ‘A’ Level.

In an interview, post the competition Kumbirai Bright Chinungu, a student from Gutu High said they were focused and determined not to tolerate enjoyment on their way to the competitions.

“It feels good to be here not forgetting the winning in a country of 10 provinces going all the way up to the best. We hope to be here so many times.

“The journey was great. We are a zealous lot so we wanted to see how the competition went. It was a luxury to be enjoying the journey because we were working, researching, practising questions and all that,” he said.

He also said they found HIV science questions hard.

“The most difficult part of the competition was the one we got asked questions such as the Delta 32 thing. This was something new to us but somehow we managed to pull through to the end, emerging winners of this competition,” said the elated learner.

Gutu Primary School also clinched the Best Primary School Prize at the competitions leaving the Masvingo Province, leaders of this year’s National School Quiz Competition.
